   About Reaction Yarn

Hand-Dyed Yarn created in Traverse City, Michigan

Knitology opened in 2016 with the goal of providing an all-inclusive space for everyone in the yarn craft hobby. We decided that the area needed a dedicated space for people to come together and share their love for their craft. Though we quickly outgrew our first location, we decided to continue with our vision of community in our new space with an even larger dedicated open knitting space as well as a large classroom area for classes as well as open knitting groups.

Another necessity for us was to make sure everyone felt welcome, not only in treatment and acceptance of yarn craft but also that we provided a selection of yarn that would fit any budget.

We carry a wide selection of yarn and notions and have a Ravelry Lab set up in order for you to purchase your Ravelry patterns right onsite!

In 2021, we started our very own line of exceptional hand-dyed yarns named "Reaction Yarn". Reaction yarn is dyed onsite...you can not get more local than that. Reaction Yarn is only available at Knitology and you can now purchase right from this site by clicking on the HOP tab at the top of the page.

Sadly, in March of 2022, we received the news that our building had been sold after our sweet landlord passed away and the family no longer had an interest in managing rental properties. We were given 30 days notice to vacate the space that had been our home for many years when we found out the building sold and the upstairs tenants backhandedly worked with the new owners to acquire our space which led to us making the painful decision to close Knitology permanently. We decided to put our full effort into our hand-dyed yarn line, Reaction Yarn, and sell exclusively online and at fiber festivals and fiber shows throughout Michigan and the midwest. This would prevent us from ever having to deal with the same life-changing events that occurred from being a tenant and put us in complete control of our future. We sincerely miss seeing our customers face-to-face and assisting our customers with project, yarn, and pattern decisions, and being available to help when expert assistance was needed.
